Fire Safety Infrastructure Under Strain Amidst Rising High-Rise Demands

NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: The fire safety infrastructure in Noida and Ghaziabad is struggling to keep pace with rapid urbanization, leaving the region vulnerable. With over 4,000 high-rise buildings in Noida and 400+ in Ghaziabad, officials admit that current resources are stretched thin, often falling short of safety standards during emergencies.

Key Highlights:

  • Critical Shortage: Gautam Budh Nagar requires 54 fire engines to meet safety demands but currently operates with only 28. Similarly, the district has only 160 firefighters deployed, despite a minimum requirement of 300.
  • Infrastructure Gaps: Current fire stations and hydraulic platforms (capped at 42-meter reach) are inadequate for the region’s increasing number of skyscrapers, some exceeding 80 stories.
  • Recent Wake-Up Call: A recent fire at Gaur Green Avenue, which left eight apartments gutted, highlighted the struggle of first responders to reach upper floors effectively.
  • Moving Forward: Authorities have sanctioned ₹308 crore to bolster capabilities. Plans are underway to procure advanced hydraulic platforms capable of reaching up to 100 meters, establish additional fire stations near the upcoming Noida International Airport, and even explore the use of helicopters for emergencies in taller buildings.

As the city continues to grow vertically, the local administration is under pressure to fast-track these upgrades to ensure the safety of thousands of residents.
